Unemployment Relief Unlikely

While some economic experts believe that the recession is over, the job market still remains dismal and small businesses fear the economy will not sustain the need for more employees, according to a poll by management consulting firm, George S. May International. Of the survey respondents, 74% do not plan to increase employee headcount in the next 90 days.

Among the respondents not hiring, 62% say they have no confidence in the economy sustaining the need for more employees, while 38% are replacing hours from employees cut by adding them on to existing employees’ workloads. Furthermore, too many small businesses are cutting staff when they should really be cutting costs, says Paul Rauseo, managing director of George S. May International. In fact, 65% of small business owners have actually received more requests for job applications in the last month, reveals the survey.
