Super Tool Exchange

Michael Goldberg, Talent Acquisition Leader, National Convention Services and Event Management Company
Sharing of great tools is supportive of community involvement and development, and we need more of that on RecruitingTrends. So in the spirit of giving, here is one of my recruiting tools.
As my Super Recruiter persona I call it a “Super Tool”, tools that help us find the people we are looking for and that save us time so we can focus on doing what is expected of us.
As some of you know, I work for the leader in conventions and trade shows and in my world, it is important to find candidates that have industry experience, especially when hiring sales people. While doing some research I found that #LinkedIn, old reliable for those who use it to source candidates, has a great tool that allows you to search those industry specific candidates
Once on there I like to browse the different types of events such as conferences, meet-ups, and seminars. But the big fish for me is the link “Tradeshows and Conventions.” With one simple click, you can view all upcoming Tradeshows and Conventions searching a variety of ways – upcoming events, events within an industry and even past events.
Let’s say you are a Recruiter in broadcasting, with global offices and you are looking for industry related sales person. Here’s is what you do:
- Click on the link: http://events.linkedin.com/
- Click on Tradeshows and Conventions – Search All
- By scrolling down the list I can see there are two events coming up that may have some great candidates. These are: InfoComm in Las Vegas and the International Broadcasting Convention in Amsterdam.
- When I click on InfoComm 2010, I am then given a choice of clicks looking at names of people who have stated they are attending and 43 who are interested in attending. From this, I can see there are 298 attending. But wait…there’s more…
- Click on “See More” and the profiles of those attending. Look to the right, you can see it breaks down further by category. Such as; people not attending, presenters, and exhibitors – where you can also click to view the names of the individual category.
- Start calling and identifying candidates.
It’s easy and you can build quite a pipeline. Unfortunately, there is no way to narrow this list down from LinkedIn. We will have to leave it to the experts such as @booleanbackblt to help us narrow this down.

And why not share your super tool with us?
