Jobseekers' Web Pages Reveal Their New Job Wishes

Those looking for new jobs seek advancement opportunities and increases in leadership responsibilities more than anything else. These desires rank higher than salary increases, flexible schedules, and various other factors, according to a study of more than 6,000 jobseekers surveyed by JobFox, an employment website that allows users to create Web pages personally branded for the job search.

Incidentally, the percentage of JobFox professionals seeking a career change with a company that is “ecologically-friendly” is a mere 5%, ranking low on the list of top career-related choices. Furthermore, only 9% say they seek shorter, environmentally-friendlier commutes in their next job. The sentiments echo those determined by a Hudson study recently reported in this column. According to that survey of 2,000 U.S. workers, only 7% claim that they have ever rejected a job offer based on the hiring company's

Also relatively low on the list of wants in the JobFox survey is a flexible schedule, possibly good news for the many managers evidently hesitant to let their employees telecommute, as revealed in research previously reported herein as well. Exploring the attitudes of 390 U.S. telecommuters, the Telecommuting Survey by Intranet DASHBOARD, a company that helps clients to manage their intranets, found that 70% of telecommuters are restricted in some way. According to the findings, these telecommuters encounter resistance from management whose concerns include lack of productivity and document safety.
