Job Hunting on Company Time

Organizations should continue to “re-recruit” their top performers even after the hiring process is over. In fact, according to findings of a recent survey developed by Accountemps, a specialized staffing service for temporary accounting, finance and bookkeeping professionals, 75% of executives would be comfortable looking for a new job while on their current employer’s payroll, as compared to 69% in 2002. In addition, of the executives polled, 38% in 2008 claim they would be very comfortable looking for a new job while currently employed, as compared to 36% in 2002; 37% would be somewhat comfortable as compared to 33% in 2002; and 21% somewhat uncomfortable as compared to 26% in 2002. “Top performers will always be in demand, and employers should make retaining key staff an ongoing priority,” says Max Messmer, chairman of Accountemps and author of Human Resources Kit for Dummies. “The loss of star talent can hinder a company’s performance, and the current shortage of highly skilled professionals in many specialties makes replacing these individuals even more difficult,” Messmer adds.
