Google Top Choice Technology Employer

While the takeover bid by Microsoft of Yahoo! continues to dominate technology news, Google remains the most highly sought after technology employer by college grad job seekers. In fact, according to a recent poll by CollegeGrad.com, an entry-level job site, 45% of poll respondents reveal they would most like to work for Google; 25% would consider working for Apple; 17% would work for Microsoft, 7% at Yahoo!; and 6% at IBM. So why are so many apt to work for Google? "They have a well established reputation for providing an inspiring, creative, and innovative employee atmosphere," says Brian Krueger, President of CollegeGrad.com. "With novel benefits added to the mix, top talent worldwide will seek to become a part of their vision." For the third year in a row, Google has surpassed Microsoft as the technology employer of choice among entry-level job seekers. Apple also finished ahead of Microsoft in this year's poll. Although Microsoft has long had an edge in recruiting top entry-level talent, that edge is beginning to shift among the millennial generation as they look for not only stability, but also entrepreneurial opportunities within established organizations. "We are witnessing a profound change in employer preference as college students buy into opportunities to be a part of the next wave of Internet innovation," adds Krueger. "As Google and Apple establish themselves not only as market leaders, but employment leaders, they are able to lead the recruiting of top technical talent." CollegeGrad.com recently released projections for entry level hiring to increase 11.8% in 2008: If these projections are met, entry-level job seekers will have even more opportunities with top technical employers.
