Interns Benefit From a Tough Job Market
New college graduates participating in internships fared better in the job market over their counterparts, says a new report published by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE).
Findings of NACE’s 2009 Student Survey reveals that just 19.7% of the Class of 2009 applying for jobs found employment by the end of April. In contrast, 23% of graduates who had gained valuable experience as an intern had a job in hand at that time. For those without internship experience, the job market was especially unwelcoming with just 14% landing jobs as of April.
NACE’s study also found that more than half of the seniors responding to the survey claim to have internship experience, but just under one-quarter received job offers from the organization they served the internship with.
