Given the national unemployment rate of 10.2%, employers are finding it increasingly difficult to provide sponsorship to potential immigrants since it requires proving they cannot find a qualified worker within the local job market. And while this might be good news for employers looking for skilled workers, it poses a dilemma for potential immigrants applying for a U.S. green card.
Long wait times for alternative immigrant visas are spurring increased interest in the E-5 investor green card, say the advocates of immigrant investors at Which EB5. Through this option potential immigrants can invest a minimum of $500,000 in a regional center of high unemployment and gain their green card. The investment must help create at least 10 jobs and meet other requirements, but it can pave the way for fast permanent residency.
