ATLANTA–(BUSINESS WIRE)–A recent survey conducted by Randstad, a global provider of HR services and the second largest staffing organization in the world, found that 33 percent of American workers feel overqualified for their jobs. Only 3 percent feel under qualified and 65 percent feel they are appropriately qualified.
In its latest Work Watch survey, Randstad probed workers’ feelings around being prepared for their current jobs and gauged their interest in learning new skills required for future on-the-job challenges and responsibilities.
“It’s surprising that 1 out of every 3 American employees feels over-qualified in their job,” said Jim Link, Managing Director of Human Resources for Randstad. “The data suggests that U.S. workers are less challenged by their current jobs. It also raises questions about how this will affect employee turnover and retention as the job market recovers.”
As recruiters, we present the best we have of the applicants for the req and wait to hear what the verdict is from the executives responsible for making the final hiring decision. But how seldom we listen to the undercurrent about the slate of candidates so that we get a true feel for how well things will work out. Some don’t understand the term “undercurrent.” It’s the perceptions of the support staff who will have to work with the candidate day in and day out of every working day.
