With the nation’s unemployment still above 9%, hundreds of thousands of Americans find themselves looking for work today in intrepid weather. The job search does not take into account such things as weather or travel expenses. You go where the employers are, and if that means battling the weather, then that is what you do. Until now that is! Two recent examples of inclement weather forcing scheduled career fairs to be canceled are University of Illinois and Texas Tech College of Engineering, which both canceled due to employers being unable to make it to the venue.
According to the recent quarterly Job Market Index (JMI) from global outplacement and executive coaching consultancy Challenger, Gray & Christmas, the percentage of job seekers starting their own businesses or relocating for new positions fell to historic lows in 2010. As the report attributes the declines to an increased aversion to risk-taking just as the job market begins to show some signs of life, it is important to note the low risks some organization are taking in hiring – as the January 26th Data Watch shows, the tech sector, one of the lowest “financial” risk operations of business, has been seen an increase in job openings – decreasing overall unemployment. Nevertheless, an even more evident drop in teenage hiring has proved employers are looking for more experienced workers – and less experienced workers (often the teenage and young adult population) have faced strong cuts.

Many companies have not grasped what interaction on social media entails. They may think they’re active when all they do is have a page on Facebook. Many decisions regarding communication are made without first asking why. Why are we choosing to communicate this message?
Why are we choosing this communication channel? Why are we choosing this target group?
