The role of recruiting has changed in the last couple of years. Due in part to the recession, the emergence of social media, and transparency through employer review sites, the new candidate is more informed, more cautious, and more determined than ever before to land ‘The Right Job’. In addition, we are still facing a multi-generational workforce which in itself requires a multi-faceted approach to how you recruit, onboard and retain great employees.
Beyond the corporate career sites, job sites and recruiting fairs, we have to be accessible, credible, and responsive in order to keep pace with today’s high-tech, high-touch candidates. So the question is how do you effectively recruit and retain The New Candidate?

Have you ever heard the saying “Your greatest assets are your employees”? I think an important word is missing from the statement and the word is “right”. The right employees are your greatest assets. This is why who you hire is the most important decision you’ll make. Before you are able to build a dream team, you need to define dream team. Be precise when you describe your goals, objectives, vision and mission. Once you clearly define where you’re going, you can identify the team you need to turn your goals into reality. It’s important to remind you of one more fact. You are in business to make a profit not provide jobs for the people you employ. It’s important to remind you of one more fact. You are in business to make a profit not provide jobs for the people you employ. After speaking at several Corporate and Recruiting Conferences, I was approached by business owners and HR professionals frustrated by the unacceptable performance of their recruiting team.

Nearly all of small and medium sized businesses (SMBs) plan to cease layoffs over in 2011, and in fact, more than two-fifths expect to increase their staff over the same period of time. This is one finding of a new report which should be of interest to anyone who recruits physicians, or, for that matter, to anyone who is likely to see a physician (which means just about everybody). The report, which is entitled Health Reform and the Decline of Physician Private Practice, was completed by Merritt Hawkins on behalf of The Physicians Foundation – a national not-for-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the work of practicing physicians and the quality of patient care. Many private physicians unable or unwilling to become a part of larger organizations are seeking alternatives. The survey suggests, and the report’s panel members agreed, the traditional model of private practice, in which a physician owns his or her own shop, works a full week, and sees all comers, is no longer tenable. Both market forces and the new healthcare reform bill are pushing doctors to consolidate into larger groups, to align with hospitals, or to become hospital employees. New payment systems, which reward doctors for both quality and efficiency, not just for volume of services performed, require data systems which private doctors often cannot afford or maintain. Private practice physicians also are faced with a growing amount of regulatory compliance responsibilities and with declining reimbursement, making private practice increasingly difficult to sustain.
HUNT VALLEY, Md., Dec. 13, 2010 (PRNewswire) — he .JOBS Charter Compliance Coalition today welcomed the ICANN Board’s adoption of the detailed recommendation (“Recommendation”) of the Board Governance Committee (“BGC”) resulting from the reconsideration process that was initiated by the Coalition in August 2010 and concluded last week at the ICANN international meeting in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia. The Coalition filed its reconsideration request because statements in Employ Media’s proposal for the Phased Allocation Program, as well as other public statements about its plans, signaled Employ Media’s clear intent to use the Phased Allocation Program to circumvent the .JOBS Charter. The Coalition is highly confident that its concerns have been addressed through the reconsideration process.

It’s official…once again Dr. John Sullivan has predicted a future trend which is becoming a reality. In June of 2009, Dr. Sullivan predicted “within a few years the “interview from anywhere” approach will become the standard practice for all but final hiring interviews.” Here we are, one and a half years later and the number of companies which have implemented these solutions has tripled and the early adopters are using live virtual interviews as the de facto standard first step in the candidate assessment process. The “interview from anywhere” solutions are saving candidate travel dollars and reducing the carbon footprint. It sounds like this will be the direction talent acquisition is heading.
